The design and construction of controlled environments
is a specialised branch of the construction industry.
As such it requires the knowledgeable application
of all current practices, regulations and controls embodied by the
current version of the Construction Design & Management Regulations
(CDM).
In 1991, long before many companies were taking H&S
seriously, CRC engaged a construction
industry specialist consultant to help us develop, apply and manage
our health and safety operation, throughout all aspects of the Company,
but most importantly during on-site activities, correctly regarded
as the area of highest risk. We continue to use our consultant to
monitor new developments in health and safety law and to assist
us in applying it to all of our working procedures. The consultant
undertakes in-house H&S training for all CRC
contract personnel.
CRC has very broad
experience in all aspects of developing CDM H&S plans for every
project and produces a H&S CDM project file for every project. We
often operate as the "Principal Contractor" for CDM and our policy
is to produce CDM documentation for every project as if we are Principal
Contractor even if we are not - this achieves the broadest and most
comprehensive safety coverage for the work we do.
Our experience is that many clients who approach CRC
are initially unaware of their own responsibilities under H&S law.
Many projects do not come with a pre-tender H&S plan and clients
are often unaware that they need to produce this and engage a planning
supervisor under CDM. If required, CRC
can arrange for solutions to all of these aspects to enable
clients to meet their legal obligations.
