Commissioning is the planned process of safely bringing plant and systems into an operational state ready for validating. We do this on every project we build.

It will apply to all electrical and mechanical systems and there will be a logical stepwise progression for safely bringing systems onto line, usually starting with lighting, electrical power and controls and progressing through HVAC, piped services and other utility systems.

CRC will use its own project and electrical engineers to plan, manage and execute the commissioning of their systems, sometimes with specialised support from equipment manufacturers where appropriate. Prepared commissioning checklists enable rapid identification and rectification of any problems and ensure the systems are ready for testing in accordance with the programme.

Qualification

Qualification is the process of testing, regulating and adjusting the systems to demonstrate that they produce the specified operational performance and to verify that they meet the designintention.

CRC will define the required tests in terms of the applicable standards, the appropriate test method and measuring instruments. Some or all of the following may be involved:

Piping services - integrity, flow rates quality, temperature and pressures.

  • Electrical services - to latest IEE regulations
  • Air volume flow rates
  • Fan performance
  • Cooling/heating/humidification plant performance
  • HEPA Filter media and seal integrity
  • Control and plant safety interlocks operation
  • Temperature/humidity/pressure control
  • Sound levels
  • Light levels
  • Vibration levels
  • Ductwork air leakage
  • Room air pressures
  • Room airborne particle counts
  • Room air velocity/vector profiles
  • Room air cleanliness recovery periods
  • Smoke visualisation of room air patterns and videorecording
  • Exhaust and fumigation systems operation
  • Wet stations, fume cupboards and safety cabinets operation

To obtain measured values in these tests CRC uses the appropriate calibrated test instruments, traceable to national standards, normally through BSIRA or other accredited test houses.

Results of all tests are accurately recorded and presented in the Handover Technical manuals supplied at the end of every project.
